The Songwriters' Workshop
On Tuesday 15 May, our special guest, Tristan Newsome, provided a few insights into his songwriting experiences. Through talk and song (but no mime) Tristan covered some of the key points made in his article 'The joys of songwriting in a pre-apocalyptic environment', published last year in SCALA News.
He spoke of murder ballads, the importance of quality lyrics, character songs, Nick Cave and much more besides. Great stuff.
Another good-sized turnout was kept engaged and interested by Tristan's exposition, and I think we can mark the workshop down as another hour well-spent.

The songwriters' circle kicked of with Daddy, another new song from Robert Childs, and was followed by two great efforts by David and Dave, in that order.
Next month (Tuesday June 19) we are planning to have an extended circle session, where the first hour will feature two/three songwriters for around 20 minutes each, looking for specific feedback on one of their songs. This will be followed (after a break) by the rapid-fire circle to which we have become used.
If you are interested in one of the three extended spots contact David Robinson at songwriters@bleakumbrella.com
