Higher Ground Inc is a not-for-profit arts association.

We operate an arts centre in the heart of Adelaide's 'Cultural & Entertainment Quarter' at 9 Light Square (CBD - West End).

Our aim is to support, promote and develop artistic and cultural activities through a broad spectrum of artistic genres.

We do this by providing a venue that is centrally located, accessible, affordable and flexible.

The most pertinent feed back that we received since our inception (way back in Fringe 2004 when we set up a temporary venue in Pulteney St) was the lack of a medium sized venue that was adequately resourced.

Finding and resourcing that space has been our driving goal ever since, and has taken us from Pulteney St, to the Old Imax Cinema in Rundle St, and since February 2008 to our new home here in Light Square. We have found this to be an ideal space, that has allowed us to create the Main Theatre, Art Base and Cafe.

Allowing artists to take that internal vision and transform it into a performance within a suitable space, so that Adelaide’s savvy & arts hungry audiences can access it is what we are all about.

Higher Ground Inc's programming style is varied and across most genres, allowing for artists from diverse artistic disciplines to find a "home base" for themselves and their work. It allows us as an association to continue supporting the arts industry here in Adelaide, and to support Adelaide's diverse artistic communities to continue growing, connecting and creating!

We are so thankful to the amazing artists and performers who continue to make the most of what this arts centre has to offer, to our wonderful staff, and all the amazing volunteers who give so generously of your time! and the tremendous support from Arts SA.

Higher Ground Inc can provide a variety of options for hire and presenting of work at the venue. Please contact us to discuss your production or tour!

Higher Ground Inc's mission is to provide an environment suitable for growth for the arts in all its forms.

To this end, Higher Ground Inc, is known as a 'User Friendly Art Space' for both artists and audiences alike.

If you are touring your show to Adelaide we are happy to help with support of local knowledge for accomadation, even billiting, media contacts, fun things to see and do while you are here and hosting you in a friendly environment where, on site, you can relax in our cafe and even party after your show in our club.

What's with the Inc?
Higher Ground Inc is an Inc because it is a not-for-profit incorporated association. That means profits made, go back into supporting more projects like our Hot House Residency Program, investing in equipment & technical resources, more marketing and poublicity, and hopefully not too far away...raked seating.
